Task 1 - My Ideal Business

Task 5 - Personal Finance: Credit Cards
Compare 3 different credit cards: Consider they way they look, the amount of interest they charge and any bonuses of using the cards (e.g. store points).

Task 6 - Marketing:  TV advertisement
Watch 2 television adverts, if possible, advertising different goods and services and complete the table answering all questions.


Task 7 - Marketing: Packaging
Find 2 examples of packaging. Your teacher will tell you for which product. Write a list of the similarities and differences between the packaging then state which is most effective, in your opinion, and why.


Task 8 - Marketing: Segmentation and targeting
Research these market segments:
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Culture
  • Income
  • Lifestyle, hobbies and interests
  • Location

For each market segment, describe what businesses could focus on and give example businesses for each using this table

Task 9 Ethical Business



Describe and evaluate the ethical behaviour of a business/es of your choice.

Using the internet research cases involving one of the ethical issues that we have discussed. For example animal testing or pirate dvd’s.
TASK
Write a newspaper article to explain the issue. You should also include the arguments for and against the practice and how the issue can be resolved/compromised.


Task 10 - Functional Areas

Identify the main functional areas in a business.  Produce a mind map of each area and describe their main features and responsibilities.

Task -  PEST Analysis
Carry out a Pest analysis on a business of your choice.
You need to state examples of the Political, Economical, Social and Technological factors affecting the business giving reasons for each.

Task - Sole traders
What is a sole trader?
  • This is the most common type of business within the UK.
  • This is a business that is owned by and controlled by the same person.
  • The owner is the person who makes all the business decisions.
  • The Sole Trader must take responsibility should anything go wrong.
  • The Sole Trader must find the money to start up the business.

Using the Internet, research sole traders and answer the following questions:
  1. List all the places a sole trader can get funding to set up their business.
  2. Give 3 advantages of being a sole trader.
  3. Give 3 disadvantages of being a sole trader.

Task - Franchises

What are franchises?
  • A Franchise is when a company sells its name to other people.
  • The company allows those other people to trade using their products or services.
  • The person or company that sells its name is often known as the Franchiser.
  • The person who buys the name is the franchisee.
  • A franchisee has the opportunity to sell the goods or services whilst using the franchiser's trademarks, brand name, brand image and reputation.
  • The franchiser will charge a fee and also retain some control by issuing certain rules and guidelines for the franchisee to follow.
Define the following terms: Franchise, Franchisee and Franchiser. Summarise the process of how a franchise is setup. Give 2 advantages and 2 disadvantages of franchising.
